UNIVERSITY EXPERIENCE

university exp.

While at university I wanted to join and take on as many things as I could, I don't believe in just going to university, doing the work and coming out with a grade - I think it's a time for experiencing and putting oneself forward for as many things as possible.

During my final year, I worked for the university as a study support tutor for animation students as well as a demonstrator for the university open/applicant days. As a study support tutor students could book in 1-to-1 slots with me one day a week and I can help them in programs such as Autodesk Max/Maya, ZBrush, Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Animate) and Nuke. For applicant days I and another student would talk about the student experience on our course, do a demonstration using ZBrush (where everyone could join in) and then answer any questions.

I joined 2 societies when I came to university, I was a member of the Snowsports society and the Sailing society. During my second year, I was elected secretary of the University of Portsmouth Sailing Club, this meant that I took minutes at committee meetings and looked after all of the club's social media accounts as well as write the weekly newsletter.

During my time as secretary, I also created a website for my club in order to market ourselves better for the new freshers at university, you can check out the website here: https://uopsailing.wixsite.com/upsc

I was also elected course rep for my course, this meant I was a voice for my course year and if anyone had any comments or problems they would put them to me and I would bring them up in our SSCC meeting with the rest of the faculty for Creative Technologies. I took this role on and tried to use my voice as best I could, this ranged from sorting out a few minor problems students had come to me for help with to sorting out aspects of my course I wasn't happy with and making sure that these were fixed for the future students to come.

PRE-UNI WORK EXPERIENCE

I am also confident in leading and working within large teams, after finishing college I stuck to my job I started in the summer of 2016 working McDonald's,  I then pushed myself and my managers to promote me and put me on the shift manager training programme; this involved a large amount of on and off the floor training, a 3 day course in McDonalds Head office and 2 exams (Basic Shift Management and Food and restaurant Safety). This meant by at the age of 18 I was already on board my journey to management, it was tough being the youngest manager in my store and with the least years behind me but it was the challenge I was willing to take!

I have just quit there as my parents have moved house so I no longer live near Gatwick, the people and the company have been very good to me over the past 3 years I have been with them, even if I do get yelled at by customers sometimes when their ice-cream melts before they can eat it!

After passing my Basic Shift Management course with honours, not only was I kept fully first aid trained and had opportunities to progress further, I also was our stores Viewpoint Champion, this meant I was the crew's first-hand person when they had an issue to raise about the store or our operation, our store usually employs around 110 crew at one time so it was important that I knew everyone on a relatively personal level so that they felt comfortable coming to me when they had issues. Throughout the year McDonald's do various charity events for RMHC such as raffles and in-store competitions, we also do something called 'Love where you Live' which is where some of us volunteer to help the community around us such as repainting public places, doing trash walks etc.
