Smaller Projects

A mixture of organic and non-organic models using a range of different 3D softwares such as Zbrush, Maya, Houdini, Substance Painter/Designer etc. These little projects have taught me a lot, focussing on a specific area for each one in order to gradually expand my 3D skills.

Embroidered Fabric Side Project

During my summer after graduating I decided to learn Substance Designer. I really enjoy using this software mostly it's procedural node-based workflow but I also like the creativity it allows. After a few attempts at simpler materials, I decided to attempt a more complex one. I really enjoyed creating this embroidered fabric material and went on to create more alternate base colour maps to go with it.

This material was recognised and retweeted by Substance and also it's founder (Sebastien Deguy) on Twitter and was also shared by The Rookies, I'm really happy with how much exposure it got as I loved working and experimenting within Designer to create this desired effect.

Due to a few requests, this material is now available to buy on my Artstation store, it comes with all the files plus a .sbsar file with exposed colour parameters meaning you can easily take it into Painter/game engines/other programs and adjust the colour to suit your project's needs.

More info available here also check it out on my store page!

I'm now currently working on building up a collection of embroidered fabric materials on my store during my spare time though this will be slow as I have just started full-time work.

Goblin - CFX/Rigging Project

This was for one of my final units at university called Advanced Creature FX and Rigging. Though it was not required to create your own character for this I wanted to try (within the time constraints) and create a really creepy creature as I really love sculpting.

This was my first time using Houdini for CFX and I really enjoyed the procedural workflow. I would love to work on character FX again in the future.

3D Self-Sculpt with Blendshapes

This is my first attempt at a self-sculpt during one of my final year units. I learnt a lot through this process from XGen to how to make a realistic eye. I will definitely be using the skills and software I've learnt during this unit in future projects!

More renders/videos/info and progress comparisons can be found here on my Artstation!

Stream Environment

This was a scene I created as part of my Design and Visual Research Module in my second year.  I used a mix of digital sculpting/painting (ZBrush and Substance Painter) and photogrammetry (Agisoft Photoscan) for all the assets in this scene as well as a Bifrost fluid simulation for the stream, backdrop image is a royalty-free image from Pixabay. This scene was created in Maya and rendered using Arnold renderer then edited in Photoshop and I’m happy with how it’s turned out!

Deinonychus

This is the Deinonychus dinosaur I sculpted in ZBrush, retypologised in Maya, projected displacement maps back onto it and then rendered using the Arnold renderer. This was my project for my Scuplting and Rigging for Film unit in second year, I recieved an 88 for the concept art and research and then an 84 for both this part of the unit (sculpting and retypology) as well as the final rigging and animation, resulting in an 85 overall.
